YOU ARE HERE

I opened the door and saw you come toward
no second thought, and I too went forward.
I looked in your eyes and you looked in mine,
with sparkling joy that made nonsense of time,
as your handsome face smiled a smile that told me
the worth of my miles would allow you to hold me.
Every thing up to this point was reminder
that inside ourselves was a compass, a finder
and even the birds stopped dead in the air
as the world stopped rotating as if needing to stare
because at long last,
You were there
You were there.

Both of us struggled to take in a breath
as both of our hearts skipped a beat and skipped death.
Without even thinking we entered embrace
I took in your scent that I knew like your face
from hundreds and thousands of lifetimes beforehand,
instantly swallowed by love just like quicksand.
Tears spilled over and ran down your cheeks
like you said only they can when one finds what one seeks,
and even the birds stopped dead in the air,
the world stopped rotating as if needing to stare
because at long last,
I was there,
I was there.

We dove into our love as if we were virgins
healing our damage like love-wielding surgeons,
experiencing highs-lows-and-all-in-between,
adventures in love that so few have seen.
There are some that would say we were being foolhardy,
but it wasn’t for us to be late to our party.
Making love on the beach in the midst of storms temper,
as lightening and thunder rained down in September,
we did not even notice a crowd that had drawn
who hollered and cheered our love with applause,
as even the down-pour stopped dead in the air
and the world stopped rotating as if needing to stare
simply because
We were there,
We were there.

We had to be brave and courageous and bold
as we unravelled the lies in the truth we’d been told,
and found that within our bodies themselves
was the truth of our being in no book on the shelves.
It was hidden and shamed and stacked beyond sight,
but we uncovered the library of what was our light.
We blinded the darkness with brilliant bliss,
and as it dissolved we blew it a kiss.
Finding ourselves in our working as one
we saw lifes’ geometry shone in the sun,
and all of the strangers who woke up to care
as the world stopped rotating, needing to stare,
because of the fact
They were there,
They were there

If asked what I’ve done, of what I could be proud
I’d say it and yell it and sing it out loud
that without delusion, without hesitation,
regardless of ego, with no reservation,
we created forgiveness and love sans condition,
that was not always easy but expanded our vision.
The payoff was bliss, and others could witness
that bliss that we were, because of loves’ fitness.
So sometimes I think there’s no more to achieve
as together we lived the things we believe,
and the cosmos gazed down on our naked hearts bared,
and the world stopped rotating as if needing to stare
simply because
We were there,
We were there.

With such courage and dignity you fought an ill
that no doctor or healer understands still,
and yet through it all your purpose was giving
to protect me and others and demonstrate living.
In the midst of this turmoil your soul shone so bright
even ensuring that I had some might,
and the way you changed people and touched deep their hearts
precise like an arrow, precise like a dart,
awakening from sleep to say your goodbye
with nothing but only pure love in your eyes.
At that moment the fabric of existence teared
and the universe stilled and the whole cosmos stared
So graced I was
To be there,
To be there.

A year has near passed since you transcended
and never perhaps can my heartbreak be mended.
An ocean of tears has my soul the world drenched,
in a deluge so deep yet my pain never quenched.
On that last night together, as you lay in my arms
and you told me that never would I come to harm,
and that never was there to be separation,
which I know in my core, even through the frustration,
I saw the perfection of human-kinds’ grace
mirrored in your eyes, on your beautiful face.
Right with me, inside me, I feel you come near
the world stops rotating and it’s your voice I hear
For always and ever
You are here,
You are here.
